TEACHINGAndrea Dezsö: The Demon Bridegroom 15 minutes long stop motion animation
with original score by Jeremiah Lockwood
2009 SAN FRANCISCO JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL OFFICIAL SELECTION
The Demon Bridegroom is my stop motion puppet animation that has its origin in the mystical tales of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav. Rabbi Nachman's tales were written down from memory by his student, Rabbi Nathan of Nemirov.
The version that inspired my animation is Howard Schwartz's "The Hollow of the Sling". Howard Schwartz used a sentence from a tale of Rabbi Nachman's as a starting point to weave a new tale which became the stepping stone of my work The Demon Bridegroom. In my animation the protagonist is a young woman who encounters a mysterious stranger while she prepares for her wedding; the story unfolds from there.
In February 2007 I was awarded a Six Points Fellowship in Visual Arts to create The Demon Bridegroom. This is my first animation project. Between 2007-2008 I learned stop motion animation, cinematography, video editing, special effects and documentary film making. I designed and built my puppets, sets and props. Many thanks to Gabriel Aronson who helped me create the street set for the animation.
